The Free State Project
What do you think about the size of the government? Do you think it's too small? Is it about the right size? Or do you think the government is too big, too intrusive, and takes too much of your money?
For many years, people have been working to achieve more freedom by trying to reduce the size of the government. They have been striving individually or in small groups to try to make a difference.
The problem is that they have been spread too far apart. They have been scattered across the country, thereby rendering much of their work ineffective.
What do you think would happen if all those people fighting for liberty were concentrated in one place?
That's what the Free State Project is all about. It's a new and different idea for achieving freedom for us all. The mission of the Free State Project is to bring all those liberty-lovers to one state, specifically the state of New Hampshire. Being in the same state allows them to concentrate their efforts. It also creates a supportive atmosphere in which they're inspired to work for liberty. Their results are multiplied, rather than divided.
Many individuals and families have been so inspired by the prospect of achieving liberty now that they've already moved to New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project. And they're already making a difference.
Why New Hampshire?
OK, so the idea of concentrating effort in one state makes sense, but why was New Hampshire chosen?
- Residents enjoy the lowest taxes as a percentage of gross income nationwide
- No general income tax
- No general sales tax
- No capital gains tax
- Among the least restrictive gun laws in the nation
- New Hampshire has a culture of personal responsibility, as evidenced by the fact that it is the only state that does not have a mandatory seatbelt law
- No motorcycle helmet law for adults
- New Hampshire cities have been rated among the best places to live by Money Magazine
- Rated #1 in the nation by Morgan Quitno for quality of life and livability
- Based on FBI figures, New Hampshire has the least overall crime in the nation as of 2001
- Very accessible to Boston
- Has breathtaking beauty and scenery — mountains, lakes, rivers, the ocean — in all 4 seasons
- And the best reason of all — as the target state for the Free State Project, New Hampshire has the best ongoing chance of becoming even more free since there are hundreds of activists with plans to move there in the near future
